Photos Of Charlotte Unrest After Shooting
Rioters took to the streets of Charlotte, North Carolina, following the police shooting death of Keith Lamont Scott. According to officials, officers were searching for a suspect with an outstanding warrant at The Village at College Downs, when they saw a man inside a vehicle in the apartment complex.
Reports say that Scott was armed with a gun when police approached him and “posed an imminent deadly threat to the officers,” resulting in the firing of their weapons.
However, residents of the neighborhood say Scott was disabled and unarmed while waiting to pick up a child from a school bus stop.
Protests broke out late Tuesday on Interstate 85, shutting down the highway and resulting in looting of semi-trucks and fires. About a dozen officers were injured in the unrest that lasted until early Wednesday morning.
Alvin C. Jacobs, a traveling photographer, captured some of the moments from the protest in the pictures below.
