ARRAY Releases ‘Ashes and Embers’ on Netflix

Ava DuVernay’s film distribution company ARRAY announced its latest film release with Netflix this week. Ashes and Embers tells the story of an African-American Vietnam veteran that is wrestling with a turbulent past and a chaotic political climate to make a future for himself.

The film is directed by Black cinema veteran, Haile Gerima, who was one of the leaders of the 1970s L.A. Rebellion film movement at UCLA. Gerima has been referred to as “a master” by Ava DuVernay and other notable filmmakers. Ashes and Embers is the 1983 winner of the FIPRESCI Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival.
