Esteemed religious leaders came together for the funeral of Apostle Dr. Richard D. Henton in Chicago this past weekend. Family and friends of the trailblazing minister gathered at House of Hope, where Henton was finally laid to rest. Henton was a key religious figure in the development and support of many influential ministers across the country. He was also the religious leader of the Monument of Faith Church, and had been in ministry for over 66 years.
The funeral procession for Apostle Henton provided the platform for other religious leaders and gospel artists to share their experiences and prayers of healing for the congregation of more than 200 people. Among those in attendance were Bishop Noel Jones, Dr. Bill Winston, Prophet Brian Carn, Sen. and Rev. James T. Meeks. The legendary Shirley Caesar blessed the crowd with a musical tribute, as well as one of the originators of urban gospel music Dr. Edwin Hawkins, Marvin Sapp, Marvin Winans and the Barrett Sisters. There was also a special video presentation from The Potter’s House leader Bishop T.D. Jakes.
Apostle Henton’s legacy is survived by his wife Helen, sons Mark and John, and daughters Amelia and F. Melodie Henton-Herrera.
