60 Years Later: Honoring Emmett Till
August 28, 2015 marked the 60th anniversary of Emmett Till’s murder.
To commemorate his legacy, the family of Emmett Till and The Mamie Till Mobley Memorial Foundation hosted a weekend of festivities that united the community in remembering the impact of 14-year-old Emmett Till’s brutal and heartless lynching.
On Friday, JET was on site as the family of Emmett Till held a memorial wreath laying ceremony at Burr Oak Cemetery followed by the “Legacy Lives – Emmett Till Remembrance Dinner” at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place.
The day was heavy and powerful as parents and loved ones of slain teenagers Emmett Till, Trayvon Martin, Jordan Davis, Michael Brown, Amadou Diallo, and Kendrick Johnson shed tears, smiles and provided comfort toward one another.
Below are captured emotions from the remembrance dinner.
