Zendaya Responds to ‘Dreadlock’ Criticism
Everything is not deserving of a reaction or response. However, there are exceptions and a recent case involving singer/actress Zendaya Coleman proves to be among them.
The bi-racial beauty spoke her peace in a lengthy message when this happened on E! Fashion Police following the Oscar Awards, Sunday night:
Yes, that is hosts Giuliana Rancic and Kelly Osbourne laughing and joking about the starlet’s hair. The comments are offensive and stereotypical.
Furthermore, you mean to blatantly point out that Kendall and Kylie Jenner are edgy and re-inventing the braid while Zendaya’s dreadlocks make her look as if she “smells like patchouli oil.” “Or weed?”
The choice to bring a cultural presence to the red carpet of a traditional event such as the Oscars, was powerful on Zendaya’s behalf. It was more than just a fashionable moment but a message.
With passion and a brief schooling on Black hair and acceptance, Zendaya responsed via Twitter:

And we know how this dance goes, social media charged at Giuliana and then the apology followed.
The audacity of folk.
