Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) Announces Retirement

Hip-hop without the artist formerly known as Mos Def? Nooooo!

However, that may be upon us as Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) announced his retirement from music and Hollywood in a lengthy address shared via Kanyewest.com, Tuesday night.

Mos opens the verbal letter to fans with a freestyle, in which he repeats “No More Parties in S.A.” Then, he goes into further detail about his recent arrest in South Africa. The rapper, who is currently being held in Cape Town, details how his family has been violated and the accusations of him trying to travel with a fraudulent passport are false.

He’s scheduled to appear in court on March 8.

In addition to clearing his name, concluding the message is the big announcement along with a few shout-out and bars he dropped for Kanye which reference Yeezy’s latest record, “No More Parties in L.A.”

Listen to the full recording below.

Is Yasiin really going to say goodbye to the game? Being that he has one more album due, maybe just maybe, we’ll get another Blackstar collab – if even for one track.
