What’s in a Name? Celebs Who’ve Switched It Up

Somewhere along the way, there was a memo circulated in the world of rap/music entertainment that alludes to new names bringing new chapters in an artist’s career trajectory. Each time Puff Daddy made one of his several name changes, his fame and brand grew into successful business ventures. So maybe there is something to this name branding re-creation. Just to see if this tactic really has some pull, we looked into the name changes of five entertainers that wanted to up their staying power and elevate their hustle.





Bow Wow, Shad Moss

Christened Lil’ Bow Wow after hitting the stage to spit a freestyle for Snoop Dogg, the pup grew into a rap and movie star, eventually dropped the ‘Lil’, and became the teenaged Bow Wow.  As host of BET’s 106 & Park and currently working on new music, beginning today (June 30) Bow Wow exists no more – Shad Moss has entered the building.
