Spider-Man: Homecoming drops July 7, 2017, but the new trailer is giving us a closer look at Peter Parker (Tom Holland) who is desperate to join the Avengers and get close to the most beautiful girl in high school.
Holland’s teen Spider-Man made his sensational debut in last years, Captain America: Civil War, but this time, he’s looking to stand on his own. Determined to prove himself as a legitimate superhero, Peter clashes with his reluctant mentor, Tony Stark aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) while trying to hide his new identity from his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei). Things get even more intense when the villainous Vulture (Michael Keaton) tries to lure Peter into his tangled web of lies. In the trailer, he says, “The rich and the powerful, like Stark, they don’t care about us. The world’s changing, boys. It’s time we change with it.”
Spider-Man: Homecoming is being directed by Jon Watts and is the second Spider-Man reboot since Tobey Maguire‘s film portrayal in the early 2000s. However, unlike Marvel’s Captain America, Thor and Iron Man, Homecoming won’t be an origin story. Instead, it will focus on the insecurities and vulnerabilities that we all feel during our teen years as we try to reconcile those things with our hopes and dreams.
Zendaya also stars in the film as Michelle, a friend of Peters. The actress spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about her character saying, “My character is not romantic. My character is like very dry, awkward, intellectual and because she’s so smart, she just feels like she doesn’t need to talk to people, like ‘My brain is so far ahead of you that you’re just not really on my level.’ So she comes off very weird. But to me, she is very cool because she’s deep. She’s always thinking about something, always reading.”
Spider-Man: Homecoming will be one of three films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to drop this year. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hit theaters May 5, 2017, and Thor: Ragnarok drops November 3, 2017.
Also, in case you didn’t know, Spider-Man: Homecoming is only the first film in a trilogy. Are you down for this new Spider-Man reboot?
