WATCH: Michelle Obama Announces New Campaign
This past weekend’s Global Citizen Festival, which featured Beyoncé as the headliner, was a star-studded event. Even First Lady Michelle Obama took the stage.
While the beauty didn’t grab the mic to sing, she stepped in front of an audience of more than 60,000 people – right before hugging Queen Bey – to launch her latest social campaign.
It’s titled #62MillionGirls, and it aims to ensure girls across the world receive an education.
“Right now, more than 62 million girls worldwide are out of school,” she said. “As I’ve traveled around the world, I have met so many of these girls and they are so bright and so determined to make something of themselves…These girls are our girls and I simply cannot walk away from them.”
Towards the end of her announcement, she urged the crowd to post selfies and describe something they learned in school on social media, using the hashtag #62MillionGirls.
