Wanted: Ava DuVernay for Marvel Film

We can’t get enough of Ava DuVernay and the demand of her vision and talent is now stirring the eyes of Marvel Studios.

The buzz is that Marvel creators are looking to bring the award-winning filmmaker on board to direct one of its diverse superhero movies. The films include Black Panther and Captain Marvel.

If an agreement is made, DuVernay will most likely take lead on Black Panther, which is set to star Get On Up actor Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, the prince of Wakanda who must take over his father’s throne and avenge his death.

The move will also mark Marvel’s first time hiring a Black director and another first in terms of using a female director.

And for some inside scoop: According to The Wrap, talks with DuVernay began following the ACLU’s ask of federal and state agencies to investigate Hollywood’s hiring practices at major studios citing “rampant and intentional gender discrimination in recruiting and hiring female directors.”
