Wale Partners with FLOTUS for Education Iniative

Wale is joining Michelle Obama in his hometown of Washington D.C. this week. Why? The First Lady has tapped the rapper for her Reach Higher Initiative.

One event associated with the program is the Beating the Odds Summit, which invites 130 college-bound students to the nation’s capital for a set of educational workshops.

It also includes a panel, hosted by Terrence Jenkins, that will feature the emcee, Mrs. Obama, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and co-founder of college student network 1vyG, Manuel Contreras.

The “Ambition” lyricist, who will also perform afterwards, couldn’t be more excited.

“I believe that the youth are the first step in creating a better country, so to be involved in a program that aims to enrich their lives is truly the greatest reward,” he said. “Having grown up in Washington, D.C., being invited to the White House by the First Lady is a dream come true. Thank you to Mrs. Obama and her entire staff for this opportunity.”

The affair will take place on Thursday, July 23.
