Viola Davis -Produced Series Gets Greenlight
Viola Davis is delivering more content and this time around, her sights are set on behind-the-scenes action.
ABC’s digital platform, ABCd has just picked up, American Koko, a series created by and starring Diarra Kilpatrick. The project is a comedy a will be produced through Davis’ JuVEe Productions, which she runs alongside her husband.
American Koko centers a satirical agency that works to solve sticky racial situations. The series aims to be brutally honest about race relations and the cultural landscape.
“[American Koko] is a bold, brave cultural reveal handled with sensitivity, vulnerability, honesty and humor,” Davis said in a statement. “Dairra has a unique voice that transcends her generation.”
As for Diarra, her major break came when she was selected as one of the 11 2015 honorees of the WGA’s Writer’s Access Program for her drama pilot, The Dirty Dozen.
As for the new ABC gig, she expressed, “I’ve always wanted to create and perform across mediums. And I’m excited for people to hear my voice and get to know me as a storyteller and an artist.”
