The third season of We tv’s hit series Growing Up Hip Hop dropped last week, and in celebration the cast slayed the red carpet.
The red carpet premiere was held at the Smithsonian Institute’s National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) in Washington, D.C and it was certainly an event to remember. GUHH executive producers and stars Romeo Miller and Angela Simmons graced the carpet. Additional cast members Vanessa Simmons, Damon “Boogie” Dash, Kristinia DeBarge, Briana Latrise and Egypt Criss also showed up and showed out.
Along with a screening of the season premiere, icons Percy “Master P” Miller, Sandra “Pepa” Denton and Damon Dash spoke on a panel about the evolution of hip-hop since its birth into the present day. “If everyone does things for the love of it, instead of purely chasing money that’s where you find passion and success,” Master P said about his longevity in the industry. The Simmons sisters rounded out the conversation by saying that though their parents served as guides in the industry, their success had to be earned. The conversation was moderated by NMAAHC’s Curator of Music and Performing Arts Dwandalyn Reece as well as Timothy Anne Burnside, the Curatorial Museum Specialist.
GUHH follows the second generation of hip-hop royalty as they struggle to step out of the shadows of their parents mega-fame and talent to pave the way for themselves in the entertainment industry.
Growing Up Hip Hop airs on WE tv Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET
