Phaedra Parks Dishes on ‘RHOA’

They’re baaack!

The ladies of Bravo’s Real Housewives of Atlanta are no strangers to drama and their new season, premiering this Sunday on Bravo, promises to deliver more of those jaw-dropping “Gone with the Wind-fabulous” moments we’ve all come to know, love and expect.

We caught up with the self-proclaimed Southern belle Phaedra Parks for the scoop on season six and what’s next for the busy mommy of two.

JET: What can fans expect to see on the new season?

Phaedra Parks: I think season six is going to be dynamic. There’s a lot of focus on our personal lives and our own personal struggles, whether it be with our families, our spouses, or children. But we still have a wonderful time with all of our friends and have our own special moments.

JET: Can you tell us more about what you’re up to this season?

PP: You’ll see more about what I really do on a daily basis and how chaotic being a mom, wife, mortician and a lawyer really is and what the struggle looks like. You’ll also see me interact with my girlfriends as well and my relationship with [my husband] Apollo.

JET: You certainly have a lot on your plate! Tell us how you balance it all.

PP: I once had a friend tell me, “Phaedra, there is no balance.” So I’m really enjoying the moment and taking things as they come. As women, we try to balance everything all the time. I just try to do everything well and stay sane at the same time. I try to take care of myself.

JET: I’ve read that you have a prenatal fitness video coming out soon! How did that come about?

PP: I did a fitness video because I think it’s important for pregnant women to feel good about their bodies. They should strive to be healthy and fit before their pregnancy, during their pregnancy and after the birth, too. I think this message is especially important in our culture where obesity and other Black lifestyle diseases, such as diabetes are near epidemic levels.

I’ve learned a lot of things during my first pregnancy that I wanted to shared, so I brought in my obstetrician to discuss some of the myths surrounding pregnancy. I want women to be empowered with information about their health and bodies. It’s a great product, it comes out in November and I think pregnant moms will love it.

JET: Your book Secrets of a Southern Belle comes out in November as well. What types of secrets are your sharing?

PP: It’s a lighthearted book based on my own experiences. I don’t claim to be a psychologist or a life coach. I’m just an expert of my own life. In the book, I’m sharing etiquette and advice that has served me well. I hope readers find the book to be informative, enlightening and entertaining. After reading the book, I want people to feel more optimistic and be in a state of gratitude.

JET: That’s awesome, I can’t wait to read it! And how is your funeral business coming along?

PP: The funeral business is coming along very well. I graduate from mortuary school in December, so I’m in my final semester. Embalming full-time on Mondays and also going to class as I prepare for my national board test. It’s been a long, difficult journey being a new mom. But anything work having is worth fighting for.

JET: Sounds wonderful! You definitely have a lot going on, what else do you have in the works?

PP: I have a few things going on. I’m working on another book right now and, outside of the show, I’m just focusing on being a mom and running my law practice. My biggest project right now is trying to perfect the art of juggling all of these things I involve myself in.

Can’t wait until Sunday? Check out a sneak peak of season six below and tune in to the premiere on Sunday at 9/8c!
