Alfre Woodard to Play President in New Show

Alfre Woodard will assume the role of Commander-in-Chief in the upcoming NBC drama State of Affairs.

The Emmy Award-winning actress will star opposite Katherine Heigl as President Roberta Payton. Described as “Scandal meets West Wing,” according to the Hollywood Reporter, Heigl will play Charleston “Charlie” Whitney Tucker, the ex-girlfriend of Payton’s late son and her right-hand woman to help the POTUS navigate through complications that come with her high-profile job.

State of Affairs will be Woodard’s return to the NBC family after starring in the award-winning Hill Street Blues. The veteran actress recently celebrated the success of the Academy-Award winning film, 12 Years a Slave.
