Tupac Biopic ‘All Eyez on Me’ Gets Release Date

All Eyez On Me

Tupac fans get ready. The long-awaited film about the iconic rapper’s life finally has a release date.

Slated to hit theaters on June 16 2017, which would have been Tupac’s 46th birthday, All Eyez On Me, will take viewers through the many twists and turns of the rapper’s life.

Born in Harlem to activist Afeni Shakur, Tupac would move around quite often as his mother and stepfather, Mutulu Shakur, were often being watched because of their participation in Black literation struggles. After relocating to the west coast, Tupac joined up with the Bay Area rap group Digital Underground, and began working on music before later branching out into films.

Directed by Benny Boom, All Eyez on Me, will detail the rapper’s rise to fame, his legendary beefs with east coast rappers like the Notorious B.I.G., his time on Death Row Records, and his untimely demise in 1996.

The film stars newcomer Demetrius Shipp Jr. as Tupac Shakur and the Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira as Afeni Shakur. Kat Graham will play Tupac’s high school friend and love interest Jada Pinkett, while Annie Ilonzeh will assume the role of his former fiancee Kidada Jones. Jamal Woolard, star of the Biggie biopic Notorious, will again play the Notorious B.I.G.
