Well, that was fast!
If you even had the chance to become of a fan of TLC’s newest reality show Starter Wives Confidential, which profiles the lives of celeb-exes, you’ll be disappointed to know that it has been cancelled after just three episodes. One of the show’s cast members, Monica Taylor aka FunkMaster Flex’s ex-wife, broke the news in an open letter today via her blog MommysDirtyLittleSecret.com but sounded just as confused as we are about why the network decided to pull the plug on the show. “Is it ratings? Is it a change in network direction…or all the outside drama?!,” Taylor wrote.
According to her letter, the show’s premature end could have been caused by a multitude of things:
“It’s no secret Starter Wives Confidential was plagued by legal inquiries and possible lawsuits from the beginning. Starting with Shanequa Tompkins being missing from all the episodes, her ex 50 cent allegedly had an agreement or contract with her of some sort that either prevented or made it difficult for her to partake in the show. I know before taping even began I was questioned about my posts relating to anyone connected with Lamar Odom. Luckily TLC had no control over what I do or can post so it became a non-issue. I never did find out who was putting pressure on them. Cut to the Lil Kim situation, one which I’m still confused about and can’t even confirm if there is a law suit…I can only imagine there were a lot of people who were afraid what would come out on Starter Wives Confidential and as you saw from the first few episodes, the ladies were NOT holding back! Trust me it gets better and much juicier. But I digress.”
No argument here! Just the show’s cast alone was a recipe for all types of drama and foolery. Starter Wives consisted of Monica Taylor (ex-wife of Funkmaster Flex), Liza Morales (ex-fiance of Lamar Odom), Zakia Baum (ex-girlfriend of Maino), Josie Harris (ex-fiance of Floyd Mayweather), Tashera Simmons (ex-wife of DMX), Cheryl Caruso (ex-wife of Phil Caruso) and Shanequa Tompkins (ex-girlfriend of 50 Cent). Even only having a three episode run, the show quickly became the TV version of a juicy tell-all book when the girls started spilling the tea about their pre and post-fame lives with their exes. So far we’ve learned that Josie still sleeps with her baby’s father Floyd Mayweather, on occasion, even though he’s engaged. Liza hasn’t given her goodies to anyone since Lamar Kardashian (oops, Odom). And Zakia will start a riot if Maino’s once alleged side chick, rapper Lil’ Kim is on the guest list of any party she’s invited to.
However, the show was pretty good and from the looks of it, was only going to get better! Unfortunately, if you’re looking forward to future episodes, you’ll have to catch them online at TLC.com. Bummer!
It was good while it lasted.
Meanwhile, 50 Cent, Floyd and Maino are probably somewhere pourin’ up in celebration.
