The trailer for Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger proves the series is going to give us teen angst, superpowers and tortured romance, so where do we sign up?!
Though the show is not set to hit Freeform until 2018, the network gave TV fans a special treat by dropping the first gorgeously haunting trailer super early. We knew the project seemed legit when we first heard about it, especially since Gina Prince-Bythewood is seated in the director’s chair. However, we have to admit the trailer has stunned us to our core.
Though we expected Freeform’s quaint version of Marvel, the network has thrilled us with a first look at an ambitious and gritty project that TV lovers of all ages will find compelling. The moody and mysterious coming-of-age story follows, Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) and Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt), two teens from vastly different backgrounds, each of whom grew up with a secret that they’ve never shared with another soul. In the comic series, both Tyrone aka Cloak and Tandy aka Dagger are orphans. Perhaps Freeform thought that was a tad too morbid so on the show, the teens at least have their families to take comfort in.
The origin story, which is the first Marvel series that will be housed at Freeform, will show the crime-fighting duo from the very beginning as they begin to hone their powers and fall in love. This duo typically fights drugs and crime which sets them apart in the Marvel Universe.
Seriously, is it 2018 yet? Cloak & Dagger looks like the teen drama we’ve been waiting for all of our lives. We’re so ready to get hooked.
