Talk about another day at the office.
Trey Songz swung by JET to chat up his fifth album, appropriately titled Chapter V, plus chatted with us about his inspirations, outlook and love life.
But we know what you really want to know…What was he like up close and personal.
The sexy crooner came through representing his host city for the day in a Bulls fitted cap and flashing a winning smile that would make any lady swoon. But we refused to be disarmed by his charm. Instead, we turned the hot lights on him to find out what’s really on his iPod, whether he’s ready to choose that special someone, and where he sees himself 10 years from now. Here are the results of our Songz session:
Top of the World
Touring for his last album Passion, Pain, and Pleasure (2010) exposed Songz to various places and cultures influencing his current project, Chapter V.
“There was a lot of traveling going on that I had never done before and seeing a lot of my fans that I never knew existed,” he reveals, adding that he was humbled by “landing in Africa and having hundreds of people with their cameras who had been camped out just to see me.”
Songz might belt out the hottest R&B hits, but you should get a peep at his personal playlist.
‘There would probably be plenty of artists that would surprise fans, like Kings of Leon, Maroon 5, Steely Dan, to name a few.”
Building the Trey Songz brand is next for the aspiring entrepreneur. He’s even channeling his inner Hype Williams, taking over the reins as director for the video single Hail Mary featuring Lil’ Wayne and Jeezy.
The Marrying Kind?
Trey isn’t ready to jump the broom yet, but marriage is on his mind.
“I don’t have a girlfriend right now, but I do have someone special in my life that’s very understanding of what its like to be a 27-year-old R&B singer who is touring day in and day out. I’m very appreciative of that and I hope to be settled down and have a family pretty soon.”
Trey made it plain there is no rush on love.
“I think when people put a time limit or constraint on when you should have a certain aspect of your life you force yourself into a situation that’s not necessarily right for you.”
Making a Scene
The songwriter may not be ready for matrimony, but he has definitely found a love for acting. His new passion landed him a role in Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D, due out next year. In the future, Trey hopes his acting career will expand into more roles depicting “true African-American culture.” Growing up loving flicks like Jason’s Lyric and Love and Basketball, he would love to be the next leading man.
What the Future Holds
As Songz continues to take his career to different heights he’s not caught up in having a perfect plan for the future. In fact, he’s not too certain if he’ll still be in the business.
“I truly don’t know if I still would like to be an artist [ten years from now]. “
After a slight pause he smiles and says:
“I don’t know, I’m living for the day. We’ll see when tomorrow gets here.’
What do you think of what Trey Songz is saying? Do you think he has a Hollywood future? Are you surprised by the artists on his playlist? Talk back to us in comments, and make sure to take a listen to Chapter V, in stores now.
