The First Trailer For ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Has Arrived & Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie Is Not Here To Play Games

Thor: Ragnarok is going to be a game changer for the God of Thunder, and from the looks of the new teaser trailer, audiences are in for a real treat.

The events of Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok take place after Avengers: Age of Ultron (which is why the blonde god was nowhere to be found in Captain America: Civil War). Thor (Chris Hemsworth) looks a bit down and out after his native Asgard is nearly destroyed by the goddess of death Hela (Cate Blanchett).

After getting his hammer Mjolnir stolen, Thor is imprisoned in another world. He gets a fresh haircut and finds himself in the hands of Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), a battle-hardened warrior who forces him into a gladiator battle of sorts with his Avengers teammate, Bruce Banner aka the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). Winning this battle is his only hope of escaping and returning to Asgard.

Tessa Thompson chatted with Entertainment Weekly earlier this year about playing Valkyrie. She said, “When we meet her, and she meets Thor in Sakaar, I can’t really say much about what she’s doing there but she does have a relationship with Jeff Goldblum’s character [Grandmaster] — it’s a business relationship. She finds Thor and brings Thor to the Grandmaster thinking he might be of interest. The rest is a secret.”

With its ’80s music, vibrant colors, and glorious costumes, Thor: Ragnarok just might be the type of Marvel film that we’ve been waiting to see from this particular franchise. Directed by Taika Waititi, this third installment in the Thor franchise appears to have the same lighthearted vibe as Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man; films that have garnered better reviews than the earlier two Thor films. Benedict Cumberbatch will also have a cameo as Doctor Strange, and our favs, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins and Tom Hiddleston are back as Heimdall, Odin, and the trickster Loki respectively.

Thor: Ragnarok storms into theaters November 3, 2017.
