The Bobbi Kristina biopic is happening, and quite frankly it makes us a little uneasy.
When TV One first announced they were doing a biopic on the late Bobbi Kristina Brown who passed away in 2015 at the tender age of 22 our stomachs dropped. Having just lost her mother, the late legendary Whitney Houston a few years prior and dealing with her own personal struggles that led to her death, this just screamed tacky to us.
Though we still feel the same way, that hasn’t stopped TV One from moving forward with the biopic. The film will debut later this summer and will star Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Demetria McKinney as Whitney, The Wire‘s Hassan Jonson will play Bobby Brown and Vivica A. Fox as Pat Houston. Stuck in the Middle’s Joy Rovaris will take on the role of Bobbi Kristina while Grown Up‘s Nadji Jeter will portray her boyfriend, Nick Gordon.
TV One just dropped their first official photo from the film, and though we can admit the cast looks pretty spot on, we still don’t feel great about this whole thing.
In a statement about the film, TV One said, Bobbi Kristina offers an “intimate look at the highs and lows of parental, familial and romantic love complicated by fame through the eyes of a sensitive, vulnerable young woman.”
Something about all of this just doesn’t sit right with us. However, we are looking forward to BET’s newest biopic, The Bobby Brown Story.
