Taye Diggs Uses Art to Address Police Brutality
As the weeks roll by, more people and artists are using their platforms to express the distress filing the air due to the alarming number of police-involved shootings and lost lives of Black men, women, and youth.
The video footage showing the killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile lit a fire into the rage that has been brewing for a while. There, on camera, the world witnessed two men bluntly having their lives taken.
Something else that was different in Castile’s case, his girlfriend’s young daughter was in the backseat. Her voice telling her mom, “It’s ok” tugs at every heart string.
Most recently, Korryne Gaines, 23, lost her life in front of her 5-year-old son following a reportedly hostile stand-off with Baltimore County police.
Of the latest celebrities to use their voice in the wake of such tragedies is actor and author Taye Diggs.
Written under a blank Black square, in story form, Diggs detailed the experience of a young boy who, after watching his parents view the fatal shooting of a Black boy by police on TV, questions if he’ll have the same fate.
