Taraji P. Henson’s New Gun-Slinging Role

Taraji P. Henson is one of the most hardworking and talented actresses of our time.

She’s always looking for new roles to challenge herself and hone her craft. Though we’ve grown accustomed to seeing her sizzle every Wednesday evening as Cookie Lyon on the hip-hop set musical drama, Empire, Henson’s new role will be unlike anything we’ve ever seen from her before.

The 46-year old Golden Globe winner is about to light up the big screen as a hit-woman gone rouge in the thriller, Proud Mary. Henson will star as Mary, a hit woman working for an organized crime family in Boston, whose life is completely turned upside down when she meets a young boy whose path she crosses when a professional hit goes bad.

The Hidden Figures star will not be the only familiar face gracing the screen in this assassin flick. Jahi Di’Allo Winston will be the streetwise kid who crosses paths with Mary. Danny Glover will star as Benny, Mary’s brutally unforgiving boss, How To Get Away With Murder‘s Billy Brown will play Benny’s son Tom who is also Mary’s ex-bae and Margaret Avery, will be Benny’s wise and refined wife. Meanwhile, Xander Berkeley will be the drug-dealing sadist Mary annihilates, provoking an all-out turf war.

Proud Mary has already started filming in the Boston area, and word on the street is that it will hit theaters at the top of 2018. The film is being directed by Iranian-Swedish filmmaker Babak Najafi, whose most recent film London Has Fallen was a box-office smash hit.

There are no official pictures or videos from the forthcoming film yet, but we’ll be sure to let you know when there are. We have a feeling that this is going to be another iconic role for Taraji P. Henson.
