4. Angel Haze
Detroit vocalist and rapper Angel Haze caused a stir when she dropped the track “Cleanin’ Out My Closet,” in which she raps about the sexual abuse she endured for years over the beat of the Eminem song of the same name. In the song, Haze recounts being raped starting at the age of seven and the devastating mental toll it took on her—leading to thoughts of suicide. The deeply personal track resonated with people and offered support to other young women dealing with abuse.
“The makings of a legend are often hidden in trails,” she raps. “So just be strong and just move on and just accept what you can, because it makes your story better when you read it at the end.”
