A musical version of the classic blaxploitation film, Super Fly, is expected to debut on Broadway later this year, according to theGrio. For those of us too young to remember, Super Fly the film was released in 1972 and starred Ron O’Neal as cocaine dealer Priest.
Music executive Tommy Mottola revealed that he will be producing the Broadway adaptation along with the Dodgers production company. He also announced that acclaimed choreographer Bill T. Jones will direct and choreography the show.
No word yet on who has been cast to star as Priest in the musical, though some speculate former American Idol contestant Justin Guarini as a strong contender. He played the role during the show’s workshop that ran in 2011.
