New Gig: ‘Straight Outta Compton’s’ Corey Hawkins

You can call Straight Outta Compton’s Corey Hawkins a new leading man, because he’s just landed the top slot in Fox’s pilot, 24: Legacy.

The series is a reboot of the 24 franchise, which starred Keifer Sufferland as Jack Bauer.

The reboot centers on military hero Eric Carter, played by Hawkins, and chronicles his return to the U.S. and the trouble that ensues which prompts Carter to enlist the CTU for help in saving his life and putting an end to potential large-scale terror attacks in America.

Prior to his U.S return, Carter had a sketchy background but changed his life for the better once he became an Army Ranger. Now that he’s back in Virginia with his wife, adversity from his past strikes and works to pull him back into action.

Alongside Hawkins will be a strong female lead who holds a lengthy history at the agency and served as the former head of the CTU.

Hawkin’s career is definitely gaining momentum. Ahead of landing the male lead, he appeared in a series arc on AMC’s Walking Dead as Heath. Up next, the Juilliard-trained actor will appear in Legendary’s Kong: Skull Island.
