Spike Lee’s ‘Chiraq’ Gets Release Date
The speculation and controversy surrounding Spike Lee’s joint, Chiraq will soon be available for all to see and just in time for the holidays.
The film, which has an original premiere partnership with Amazon Studios, is now working with Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate for a full theatrical release, slated for Dec. 4. Chiraq would then move to Amazon Prime.
Initially, Chiraq was expected to hit the 2016 Cannes Film Festival before its debut on Amazon Prime, but the excitement had a strong build and expedited the release.
The story is adapted from the Greek Play Lysistrata, and follows women in a sexual rebellion against their husbands as a way to stop violence and war in Chicago.
Teyonah Parris (Dear White People) leads the protest and Spike rounds out his cast with Common, Jennifer Hudson, Samuel L. Jackson, Nick Cannon, Angela Bassett, Wesley Snipes and more.
