Spike Lee Receives Honorary Oscar

Congratulations to Spike Lee, because he has just added an honorary Oscar to his trophy case.

The Chi-Raq director received the golden statue over the weekend during the Seventh Annual Governors Awards.

And better yet, some of his most famous filmmaking buddies presented it to him – Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson and Wesley Snipes.

The 58-year-old didn’t just accept his award with a “thank you.” He also used the opportunity to address the lack of diversity in Hollywood:

“Everybody here probably voted for Obama. But when I go to offices, I ain’t see no Black folks, except for the brother man who is the security guard who checks my name off the list as I go into the studio. We need to have a serious talk about diversity and get some flavor in this…It’s easier to be the president of the United States as a Black person than to be the head of a studio. Honest.”

We can’t argue with him there. Watch his full speech here, and take a look at his post from the ceremony below.
