Sony Taps Tamara Hunter As VP of Casting

Melanin is winning!

Sony has named Tamara Hunter as the vice president of casting. In the newly created position, Hunter will oversee theatrical casting strategy across the studio’s labels such as Affirm, Screen Gems, Columbia, Sony Pictures Animation and TriStar Pictures.

Hunter held similar duties in her prior position with Twentieth Century Fox and working independently ahead of that role. Her resumé runs steep with casting placements in films such as the upcoming “X-men: Apocalypse”, “Hidden Figures”, an adaptation of a Margot Lee Shetterly novel about a group of African American number crunchers who work with NASA, “Guardians of the Galaxy”, and “Safe House”, to name a few.

Sony came under fire in 2015 due to a massive email hack that exposed the inner workings and offensive and racist commentary made by execs from some of the biggest Hollywood studios.

It’s good to see Hollywood making progressive steps toward diversity and inclusion.

Tamara starts her journey as the VP of casting on Monday, March 21.

Congrats!
