Recently, Rihanna, Lupita Nyong’o, Ava DuVernay and Issa Rae joked on Twitter about doing a heist film together, and now it’s actually HAPPENING!
Several weeks ago, a fan on Twitter posted a 2014 photograph of Rihanna and Lupita Nyong’o at a fashion show with the caption, “Rihanna looks like she scams rich white men and Lupita is the computer smart best friend that helps plan the scans.” Needless to say, that tweet went viral, and Rihanna and Nyong’o even joined in all of the fun.

Things got even more delightful when Ava DuVernay and Issa Rae were thrown in the ring as the perspective director and screenwriter for the fictional film.

All of the hype lasted for a couple of days, and we all moved on with our lives until yesterday. Netflix has reportedly picked up the project with Rihanna, Nyong’o and DuVernay attached to the project. Issa Rae is apparently still in talks for her deal, but we can only imagine that she’s simply working out the final details. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that this all went down very dramatically at the Cannes Film Festival in France and that Netflix, “landed the project in a very aggressive bid, beating out multiple other suitors.”
So what about the Twitter users, especially, user @1800SADGAL who got this idea out there in the first place. When all of this originally happened, Issa Rae’s reps told Vanity Fair that, “the original Twitter users who imagined the concept for this film will be credited and included in some form.”
Apparently, Issa Rae is already working on the script and filming for the movie is set to begin in 2018 once DuVernay wraps post-production for A Wrinkle In Time!
What a time to be alive!
