Get Hip To English Artist Skepta in Upcoming Doc
“I’m the chosen one. But I chose myself,” says English rap artist Skepta in the trailer for his upcoming documentary.
Titled, Greatness Only, the film was shot in the weeks that led to a prominent moment in his rising career – a concert at London’s Alexandra Palace.
“When I finally got there, to where I thought was the top, I wasn’t doing what I was doing in the beginning. I was not happy. This was a straight nervous breakdown.”
Skepta’s emergence into the music scene isn’t new. But, it was the release of his fourth studio album, Konnichiwa, that brought broader attention to the grime artist.
The road wasn’t easy, but where there’s passion, there’s a way and Skepta is leading the charge on his career. Not only did his project garner praise, but he also earned the coveted Mercury Prize and landed an ambassador gig with fashion giant Uniqlo.
In the documentary, which Apple Music and Beats 1 teased a few snippets, fans and new listeners get to hear commentary from those closest to him such as Pharrell, who is also a collaborator. The film is produced by Skepta’s sister along with Beats 1 anchor Julie Adenuga – both are also featured in the doc.
Greatness Only premieres on Apple Music, December 19. Check out the trailer below.
