Philadelphia 76ers Apologize To Sevyn Streeter

The tag #WeMatter became a trending topic earlier this week, after singer Sevyn Streeter,  who was scheduled to perform the national anthem during a 76ers game,  was denied the opportunity because she wore a jersey with the phrase.

Now, the Sixers organization is extending an apology to the singer and admitting they made a bad call.

The statement reads as follows:

“We are sorry that this happened. After receiving feedback from our players, basketball operations staff and ownership group, we believe the wrong decision was made, and Sevyn should have been welcomed to sing.

We apologize to her, and in an effort to move the conversation forward, we have reached out to offer her an opportunity to return and perform at a game of her choice. We are waiting to hear back.”

Nice, but very expected gesture. The apology comes days after the discriminatory act hit social media. And you mean to tell us, that grown, adult human beings that make decisions on a daily basis, took three days to determine that turning Sevyn away was a messed up move?

I guess.

What do you think JET fam, should Sevyn take them up on performing at a game of her choice?
