Russell Simmons

Russell Simmons has always been relevant in the hip-hop industry and now he’s ready to take his talents further to a Broadway stage.

Recently, the mogul has teamed up with Tony-winning producer Scott Prisand to create the hip-hop musical which will be titled, The Scenario.  Prisand has worked with musicals such as Rock of Ages which just ended its six-year run.

Dan Charnas, who is considered to be responsible for the creation of hip-hop journalism will be the writer of the show’s story. The show will focus on hip-hop genres from the 1980s-90s. According to The New York Times, Simmons is looking to feature music from various Def Jam artists. The story line is still being developed.

This is the hip-hop entrepreneur’s  second time being involved in a theatrical project. Back in 2002, he produced the Broadway adaption of his hit HBO show Def Poetry Jam which he ended up winning a Tony Award for.

Simmons hopes to to premiere The Scenario in late 2016.
