The History Channel will air the series premiere of the remake of Alex Haley’s award-winning series, Roots. The series, which originally aired in 1977, is a film adaptation of Haley’s 1976 novel, Roots: The Saga of an American Family. The new series stars Anika Noni Rose, Forest Whitaker, T.I., Laurence Fishburne, Emayatzy Corinealdi, and Malachi Kirby as Kunta Kinte.

Alexandra Shipp (Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B, Drumline: A New Beat) stars as a young “Storm” in Marvel’s latest X-Men film series, X-Men Apocalypse. The story is focused around the revival of the ancient mutant “Apocalyse,” the first mutant the world has ever seen. “Apocalypse” looks to take back his throne and obliterate the human race with his team of Horsemen, but the X-Men won’t allow it to happen without going to war first.

Race is a biopic about Olympic Gold medalist Jesse Owens, one of America’s greatest track and field runners. The film stars Stephan James (Selma, Home Again) as he plays the role of a young Jesse Owens before the fame and acclaim of participating in the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
