Roland Martin Schools Wendy Williams on Black Matters
Wendy Williams received a social media whooping from comments she made questioning the need for HBCUs and the NAACP.
During the “Hot Topic” segment of Wendy, the talk show host played a portion of Jesse Williams’ BET Awards speech and criticized his messages of racial empowerment and putting societal racism on blast by suggesting there should be institutions and organizations strictly for white people. She even went as far to say that she was “offended” that HWCU (historically White colleges) don’t exist.
Roland Martin caught wind of Williams’ rhetoric and went all the way in, which led to the talk show diva reaching out to extend an invitation to her show.
What followed was a history lesson on race in America, police brutality and the lack of accountability, and why HBCUs are still very necessary.
To her credit, a teary-eyed Williams admitted she was wrong and apologized for her comments. So maybe there’s hope for others, too.
