#BeingABlackGirlIsLit, Rio Olympics Edition

Simone Biles New Book

Back in February, Black women all across the globe gave each other a high-five when they proclaimed, “Being a Black Girl is Lit.” From Beyonce’s Super Bowl performance, to every day Black women doing what we do–sisters showed out and celebrated our magic in a real way.

Now that the Olympics are captivating the world, one thing has become abundantly clear–Black Girls Are Lit…in Rio!

Don’t believe me? Here are a few receipts:

  • Rafaela Silva won Brazil’s first gold medal
  • Simone Biles dazzled the world and took home the gold in gymnastics
  • Simone Manuel made history, becoming the first Black American to win a gold medal in an individual swim event
  • Ethopian runner Almaz Ayana smashed the world record in the 10,000m
  • Ibtihaj Muhammad became the first American to compete in a hijab
  • Jenny Arthur set a USA record in weightlifting

And there’s still an entire week–and track and field–left.

Earlier today, Twitter user @Awkward_Duck resurrected the hashtag #BeingABlackGirlIsLit once again, and decided to shout out Black female Olympians doing their thing, because let’s face it, they are KILLING IT.

Of course, the rest of us joined in on the celebration.
