Rihanna and Lauryn Hill Miss Grammys

Were you disappointed when Rihanna and Lauryn Hill didn’t grace the stage during last night’s Grammys?

We were too!

While we were expecting a performance from Rih Rih, Ms. Hills’ appearance was supposed to be a surprise. According to the Recording Academy president, Neil Portnow, she was set to take the stage with The Weeknd.

When he called out the “Ex-Factor” singer for being a no-show despite attending a dress rehearsal, her team released a statement to PEOPLE.

It read, “The Grammys announced a performance by Ms. Lauryn Hill prematurely and without approval. Any performance that could have happened was never confirmed, and should not have been advertised as such.”

A rep continued, “Ms. Hill was invited to do a collaboration with an artist she appreciates. The performance was intended to be a surprise and unfortunately, due to its last minute nature, was unable to come to fruition.”

As for the Barbados princess, she had to bow out after a doctor put her on vocal rest for bronchitis.

The star was bummed, tweeting, “#NAVY so sorry I couldn’t be there ….. Thanks Grammys and CBS for your support tonight.”

Hopefully, she’ll be ready to rock and roll when her ANTI tour kicks off later this month.
