Nearly seventy years later, true horror fans will still get chills when seeing Janet Leigh scream with terror in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 film, Psycho.

In the horror classic, Leigh starred as Marion Crane, a secretary who steals money from her job and finds herself at the Bates Motel while on the run from the law. In tonight’s episode of Bates Motel, megastar Rihanna is updating the iconic role for the 21st century.

A&E’s Bates Motel is a contemporary prequel to Hitchcock’s film. In its final season, it appears that the past is finally merging with the present. The series’ showrunner Carlton Cuse spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the choice to intertwine the series and the film. He said, “As part of the grand plan we always talked about having Marion Crane enter the world of our show during the final season. We spent a lot of time talking, just sitting on the couches in my office talking about stories and ideas and stuff.”

Rihanna, who has been vocal in the past about being a fan of the show will make her debut this evening in the two-part episode, “Dreams Die First.” Her storyline will conclude in next week’s episode, “Marion.” Rihanna’s Marion Crane should be especially intriguing considering the fact Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore), hasn’t exactly been in a stable state of mind this season. At Comic-Con San Diego last year, Bates Motel Executive Producer Kerry Ehrin gave us a sneak peak regarding Rihanna’s entrance into the series. She said, “[Norman’s] in a very fragile and lonely place and Marion Crane is a charismatic woman, she’s super present when she’s with him, and she’s very attractive — all those things are exactly what he needs right at this moment.”

It’s not clear if the 29-year old singer’s storyline meets the same fate as the original Marion, however, we can guess that things are going to get really frightening really quickly.

Bates Motel airs on A&E Mondays at 10 PM ET. Will you be watching?
