Re-Cap: Chosen Few Picnic – 25th Anniversary!
The rhythms, the energy, and the people! Chicago is the home of house and every year the curator of the culture and those who grew up with the tempo reunite over the July 4th weekend on the city’s South Side.
The occasion: The Chosen Few Old School House Picnic. This year was even more of a celebration as the city staple celebrated their 25th anniversary. As the official media sponsor, JET was on deck and in the midst of the biggest house reunion, soaking up the good weather, notable eats & drinks, and among the people sharing in genuine fun.
It was constant music and motion as we two-stepped, wobbled and let loose to the sounds of the Chosen Few DJs, Stephanie Mills, Evelyn “Champagne” King, who recently celebrated her 55th birthday and dropped it a few times while performing classics ‘Set Me Free’ and more. King was also this year’s recipient of the ‘Chosen Few Lifetime Achievement” award. Cory Daye also performed.
As the party went on through the night, President Obama made a video appearance to congratulate the Chosen Few DJs and Chicago on 25 years of keeping House music prevalent and present.
Following the president’s guest appearance, a firework display set off the 9 o’clock hour.
Until, next year, friends, feel the action in the gallery below and also visit JET on Instagram for a live experience.
