R&B Legend Allen Toussaint Passes at 77

New Orleans soul legend Allen Toussaint passed away Monday night following his performance in Madrid, his family confirmed.

Toussaint was 77.

Described as humble and soft-spoken, Toussaint lived and breathed the rhythms of sound and has been coined as a prominent influence in shaping New Orleans R&B/Soul during the 20th century.

Toussaint shared his vocal gift with the world and with artists such as Paul McCartney, Paul Simon and Solomon Burke, while lending his production prowess to projects for Lee Dorsey, Professor Longhair, and Joe Crocker, to name a few.

Fusing the emotion of the Blues with lyrics of R&B sensibilities, Allen Touissant is remembered as one of the greatest contributors to soul music.
