Poll: Should Beyonce Apologize for “XO”?
Not a day goes by that there doesn’t appear to be some kind of Beyonce-related news.
Lately, the singer has found herself under fire for sampling the Challenger tragedy in her new song “XO” off her fifth album. At the beginning of the song, NASA public affairs officer Steve Nesbitt can be heard saying: “Flight controllers here looking very carefully at the situation. Obviously, a major malfunction.”
Beyonce calls the sample of the space tragedy a “tribute,” while those who lost their loved ones when the spacecraft exploded on January 28, 1986 are calling it disappointing.
The singer released a statement explaining the sample on Monday:
“The songwriters included the audio in tribute to the unselfish work of the Challenger crew with hope that they will never be forgotten. My heart goes out to the families of those lost in the Challenger disaster. The song ‘XO’ was recorded with the sincerest intention to help heal those who have lost loved ones and to remind us that unexpected things happen, so love and appreciate every minute that you have with those who mean the most to you.”
But is it enough? Take our poll and tell us what you think!
