Watch: Phife Dawg In A ‘Nutshell’

This is uber bittersweet. As many payed homage and celebrated the life and legacy of Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor Tuesday night at New York’s Apollo Theater, the visual for Phife’s track “Nutshell” featuring production by the highly praised J Dilla, was released.

The single comes from the 5-foot assassin’s, Give Thanks EP, which was initially slated for a February release. At the time of his passing, he was also working on another full-length album entitled, Muttymorphosis.

Between Dilla’s scratches and Phife lyrically floating with bars like, Uninterested when dealing with unoriginals/Unaccustomed to unproven whack flows/Unresponsive to unapproved stage shows/That’s unacceptable, unexciting, lazy f**ker/Phife here, canny, uncommon rhyme spitter, the energy of hip-hop is felt and the incomparable skill that these greats possessed hits the heart a bit harder.
