Oprah Cast in Richard Pryor Biopic

It’s official! Mike Epps has landed the lead part in the Richard Pryor biopic, but he’s not the only actor who’s been casted in the upcoming film. Oprah Winfrey has snagged a part, too. The media mogul will play the comedian’s grandmother, Marie Carter.

But Winfrey won’t be portraying a sweet, old woman. Pryor’s grandmother actually ran a brothel and was described as a violent woman.

Director Lee Daniels confirmed the casting news on Twitter by tweeting a photo of him, Winfrey and Epps with a caption that read “Get ready y’all- #MikeEpps as #RichardPryor.” Oprah also posted the photo on her Instagram.

According to Deadline, the comedian knocked his audition out of the park, and beat out Nick Cannon, who hinted that he might have snagged the role, Marlon Wayans and Michael B. Jordan.
