She’s Gotta Have It is coming to Netflix, and Nola Darling is bringing all three of her baes with her.
Spike Lee’s 1986 flick, She’s Gotta Have It is getting a 21st-century update. In the original version, we met Nola Darling (Tracy Camilla Johns), a young Brooklynite who was trying to date three very different men. The flick helped launch Lee’s stellar career. Some of the tropes surrounding Black women and dating, however, specifically when it comes to women “settling down,” are now of a different era.
In the new Netflix series, Nola will be played by Underground alum DeWanda Wise; Cleo Anthony, Anthony Ramos and Lyriq Bent taking over as Greer Childs, Mars Blackmon and Jamie Overstreet, respectively. Nola is still trying to figure out this whole career thing and her dating life all while balancing her friendships. She’s a grown-ass woman, but like many of us, she’s just trying to get it together. Take a sneak peek of Nola’s three lovers for yourself below:
The sneak peak is randomly edited together, and though we do get a sense of each of the three men, Netflix is still leaving us in the dark when it comes to the style and tone of the series as a whole. Hopefully, we’ll get more footage from the highly anticipated series in the coming months. Check out the original trailer below:
All ten episodes become available on Netflix on November 23.
