Nicki Minaj has butted heads with yet another American Idol cast member. The rapper’s latest beef is with former Idol judge and Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler.
The rocker shared a few choice words about the new Idol judges in an interview with MTV News recently: “They [Idol judges] should have something going on so thick and beautiful that they can lay it over the new talent that’s trying to birth itself. It needs to be birthed, not judged by ‘entertainment’ factors, it needs to be judged by people that [are] honest, true, that have the ‘it’ factor. Not the ‘it’ factor because they can fight. The f*** is that all about?”
He continues his critique by specifically mentioning Minaj. Tyler says,” If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield! Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with us [Tyler and former judge Jennifer Lopez], we would have brought the best of him out, as we did with Phillip Phillips. Just saying.”
Minaj was less than thrilled with his comments and took to Twitter to let everyone know, calling Tyler a racist. She wrote, “Steven Tyler said I would have sent Bob Dylan to a cornfield??? Steven, you haven’t seen me judge one single solitary contestant yet!” She continued, “You assume that I wouldn’t have liked Bob Dylan??? why? black? rapper? what? go f*** yourself and worry about yourself babe.”
Luckily an apology soon followed. In an interview with eTalk yesterday, Tyler made it clear that it was not his intention to make a racist remark. “Maybe I spoke out of turn. But a racist I’m not, Nicki.” He continued, “I am the last thing on this planet as far as being a racist. I don’t know where she got that out of me saying I’m not sure how she would’ve judged Bob Dylan.”
Well, that settles that dispute.
