Muhammad Ali Portrait Vandalized
Make no mistake about it, Muhammad Ali will always be the greatest of all time. As murals and portraits begin to adorn the sides of buildings in his memory, one person decided to vandalize a street portrait of Ali in downtown Springfield.
John Simpson finished the tribute painting on Saturday, following Ali’s funeral the previous day.
Simpson’s creation was part of Springfield’s downtown beautification project and located on a utility box on Main Street. Sadly, before the community had a chance to really enjoy the image, someone decided to deface it.
Now the artist, along with a local arts organization, have to decide what the next steps will be. The damage includes numerous scratches to the image and a cut down to the original paint on the box.
The culprit has yet to be identified, but many are upset someone would dare to vandalize Ali’s image.
