‘Dear Mama’ Mother’s Day Celebration Hits Vh1
Tupac hit a soft spot when he dropped 1995’s “Dear Mama.” The poetic rapper was able to tap into the strength and struggles that mothers endure. The reality of the lyrics fused with the sincerity of its message made it the true hip-hop anthem for mothers everywhere.
So it feels so right to see Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit production company partner with Jesse Collins Entertainment and Vh1 to produce its first Mother’s Day honors event.
The “Dear Mama” special will premiere on Sunday, May 8.
During the evening, stars will step aside to shine light on their mothers. Queen Latifah will honor her mother, Rita Owens. Trey, Jaden and Willow Smith will give props to Jada Pinkett-Smith and Anthony Anderson will host the festivities and celebrate his mother, Doris Bowman.
“Every story we’ve told, every show we produced, every film we’ve been a part of wouldn’t be possible without our mothers,” Shakim Compere, Flavor Unit founder said in a release sent to JET.
The full line-up has yet to be announced, but “Dear Mama” is sure to be filled with unique tributes, laughter and a whole lot of love!
Adding to the coolness, YOU can be a part of the conversation by using the tag #DearMamaVH1.
Taping of the special is slated for Tuesday May 3rd in New York.
