Meet Miles: Marvel’s First Black Spider-Man

After years of playing around with an alternate version of Spider-Man in the Marvel Universe, Miles Morales, the first ever Black Spider-Man will officially replace Peter Parker in the series’ comic books.

What does that mean for upcoming Spider-Man movies? Well Marvel plans to keep Parker in the upcoming Marvel film set for a 2017 release, but in terms of future installments, we’re not sure yet.

But as for the comic book universe, the torch has been passed.

The news comes just a few days after Gawker got a hold of a leaked email from Sony that revealed preference for a Peter Parker that must be “Caucasian and heterosexual” in the film.

Word is the new Spider-Man will most likely be sent back to high school in the next film installment.

If Sony is smart, they’ll start diversifying their roster of superheroes quickly. Perhaps it will help curb all of the exposed discrimination, racism and damage suffered due to leaked emails that led to then chief, Amy Pascal, having to address the corp’s questionable practices.
