Mary J. Blige Is Headed to ShondaLand
Platinum selling artist Mary J. Blige knows how to rock a show, serving up soulful sounds for her legion of fans. While Blige has built her career crafting heartfelt anthems over heavy beats, she’s also been making strides in acting as well. After starring in Betty and Coretta, a film about Betty Shabazz and Coretta Scott King, and appearing in NBC’s The Wiz Live, the Queen of Hip Hop Soul is taking her talents to ShondaLand.
According to Deadline, Blige will guest star on an upcoming episode of ABC’s hit drama How to Get Away With Murder. Although the network has yet to release details about what role she’ll play, according to Murder star Viola Davis, season three will be full of twists and turns.
“It’s going to be presented very quickly in the first episode,” Davis said of the upcoming season.
How to Get Away With Murder is another hit for media powerhouse Shonda Rhimes. The show, which is produced by her company, closes out ABC’s TGIT–Thank God It’s Thursday–lineup, which includes Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away With Murder. Last year, Davis took home an Emmy for the role of Annalise Keating.
This season, the drama starts as soon as the first episodes begins. In the promo for the upcoming season, viewers will quickly learn someone will die.
