This ‘Loving’ Trailer Will Have You In Your Feelings
In 1967, Richard and Mildred Loving changed the way Americans can love. When they were married in 1958, the couple violated Virginia’s Racial Integrity Act of 1924, an anti-miscegenation law, that prohibited interracial marriage. Over the course of the next decade, the Lovings were harassed by local law enforcement and “good ol’ boys,” alike who worked hard to keep the couple apart.
The story of the couple who refused to give up on their bond is the basis of writer/director Jeff Nichols’ new film, Loving. Starring Ruth Negga and Joel Edgerton, the film “celebrates the real-life courage and commitment of an interracial couple who married and then spent the next nine years fighting for the right to live as a family in their hometown.”
The Lovings took their fight all the way to the Supreme Court, and their case affirmed the right for Americans to marry whomever they want, no matter the race.
This November, Loving will hit movie theaters, but the gripping first trailer already has us in our feelings.
